Functional Strength Training

Quarterbacks, golfers and tennis players set their feet and bodies facing sideways to their targets with most of their weight on the back leg. The throw or swing starts off the back leg and the weight is transferred forward like the uncoiling of a spring. In golf, your hips and legs produce most of the force upward into the torso. By transferring that energy faster, you are able to rotate your torso and shoulders allowing for fast arms sweeping into and through the ball with strong acceleration and follow-through. Smooth movement is the key.

The exercises in this section are functional strength exercises that integrate your muscle groups into specific movement patterns that lead to more power and better coordination for your golf game.

Your core is your key to your golf swing - not your arms. The most powerful athletic movements are either initiated or linked through the torso / trunk area. Therefore, many of the exercises focus on core work.
